Northern Lights

NorthernLight.stand

Creating this piece was a whirlwind!  I had so much fun selecting the colors and cutting the shapes for this 12 inch disk.  It stands on a 3 foot floor stand so it can be displayed in your home.  The light plays beautifully through this purple, green, orange, blue, pink and red glass.  Sometimes I think  an art piece creates itself.   It cries out for beauty, color and shape.  It knows someone inn the universe needs JOY in their life.  It allows the artist to express their innermost thoughts in a chosen media. All of those take shape into something very special.   After several weeks of being distracted and not being in the studio; that certainly was the case with this one.  One evening I cleared my mind, drank a little wine and the process began.  To top it off, this piece sold as I was delivering it to  The Garden Gallery for an upcoming show.  A lady followed me in, fell in love with it and bought it on sight. It is now on it’s way to Alaska!    It didn’t have a name at that point of sale – so it seems appropriate to name it “Northern Lights.”    See how that happens?   #ArtLove  #InspiredGlass    #SnowyCreekGlass  #SayWhatSnowyCreek

My Snowman is bigger

A customer commissioned my snowman plate but wanted it big….real big. I was worried how it would turn out especially around the mouth and eyes. I had to add a layer on the base to keep it sturdy but otherwise there were few other changes. Here is the snowman in a 12″ x 12″ size. The other is the 5″ square plate size that I usually make.

Pattern bar heaven

Just finished some great pattern bar plates. The black and white sections of the plate are actually slices of a stack of black and white ( with a little red and yellow) pieces of glass fused together. When laid on their sides and sliced, they make interesting patterns. I hadn’t tried the red for a base but I love the results on this 12″ x 12″ plate. The black plate (5″ x 5″) with the pattern bar lends a zebra style to the project.

Aspen Winter

Inspired by my days ( and nights) living in Colorado this 7″ x 10″ piece is created by using strips of opal white (trunks), powder (branches) and medium frit (leaves and snow) on a blue iridescent base. The silver of the moon shines above the frozen landscape.
